First, sanding is a strong way to fix dents and scratches by taking off a bit of the top wood layer. Sanding also allows the wood to be stained in new colors, with many options available.
Each time you sand, it removes about 0.5 – 1.5 mm from the top layer. This can only be done a limited number of times, as specified by the wood type.
